On Friday 5th July Jack Cooper travelled to Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge to represent Oakmeeds in the National Final of the Foreign Language Spelling Bee Competition.
The Foreign Language Spelling Bee is a competition for students in Year 7 to practice and improve their vocabulary, spelling and memory skills in a foreign language (French, German, or Spanish). It was created by Jane Driver in partnership with Routes into Languages East. It started in 2009 as a regional competition for the East Anglian region, and in 2010 it became a national competition across England. When this year’s competition started in September there were a total of 25,000 students taking part!
Jack earned a place in the Final by winning 1st Place in the South East Regional Competition at Brighton University in April. In the French Final in Cambridge he was competing against 33 other students in the French section and he performed brilliantly, translating and spelling 16 words randomly selected from a list of 200 without making a single mistake! Although he didn’t get down to the final four on the day we would like to congratulate Jack on this amazing achievement and for all the hard work he put into preparing for the Final.
